Stories of Growth: TRí’s Impact on Tanzanian 3-wheel Drivers

At Persistent, we are committed to supporting innovative solutions that can make a meaningful difference, and our partner TRí is contributing to positive change in Tanzania’s e-mobility sector. To better understand this impact, we gathered stories from two TRí riders. One notable example is Ismael, a street merchant whose life has improved significantly since joining TRí’s electric 3-wheeler ecosystem.

Ismael

Ismael, once reliant on selling car accessories, saw an opportunity to achieve financial stability when he noticed TRí’s electric 3-wheel taxis in action. Driven by determination, he invested in one of these electric bajajis, marking the beginning of a new chapter. Free from the burden of fuel costs, Ismael now charges his vehicle at home, allowing him to consistently provide for his family as a taxi driver. He is even considering expanding into a fleet of electric bajajis.

Reflecting on his journey, Ismael shared, “The electric 3-wheeler has been a game-changer. When money is tight, I don’t have to worry about fuel. I can charge at home and be ready for the next day. My customers are also fascinated by the fact that it’s electric—it has truly transformed my work and life.”

Yassin

Another inspiring story is that of Yassin, a trained welder whose financial difficulties forced him to halt his education. After struggling with a petrol-powered 3-wheeler, Yassin was hesitant to try again. However, TRí’s affordable electric options convinced him otherwise. Now, through TRí’s lease-to-own scheme, Yassin is not only recovering financially but is also planning to complete his welding certification.

Yassin said, “The electric 3-wheeler has been a lifeline for me. Once I finish the lease, I’ll have the financial stability to return to school and complete my education.”
