Persistent is powered by a team of impact-driven early-stage investors who support exceptional entrepreneurs building climate technology businesses. We are investors, entrepreneurs, technologists, and lawyers, all united behind a vision to create a more sustainable Africa and accelerate climate technology across the continent. Our team is diverse, consisting of members from various African backgrounds who contribute to different aspects of our initiatives and we are proud to have a composition of 80%+ team members based in Africa, 60%+ African team members, and 60%+ female representation in the entire team structure.

We are particularly fortunate to have a fantastic in-house legal team, led by Partner Wairimu Karanja, and consisting of two Legal Associates and a Legal Analyst. Their expertise doesn’t only ensure our investments and operations comply with legal standards as well as ESG principles, but they bring in their expert knowledge into our partner companies – supporting entrepreneurs to build the important basis of good corporate governance, sound legal structures and contracts as well as E&S policies.

Another Persistent specialty is our Investment & Venture Building team. They don’t only work on finding and investing in the most exciting and impactful Climate Ventures, but they often also work closely with our partner companies, assuming operational and even managerial responsibilities. Their hands-on approach and strategic insights play a critical role in the success of our partner ventures. This team’s skill set is a testament to our commitment to fostering entrepreneurship in the African region. Some of our Venture Builders are also dedicated to our CEI and EEGF Mandates.

Our IT and Tech team, with a specialized focus on Tech Venture Building and other tech related initiatives, ensures we remain at the forefront of innovation. The team’s expertise enables us to leverage technology to enhance our operations both within Persistent and our partner companies.
